Gress 2 ply, 50/100g (Grass)
Gress is Steingjerde wool that’s been plant dyed with tansy. The grey Steingjerde yarn is a blend of white wool from Lofoten, carded together with black sheep wool sourced from across Northern Norway. Crossbred wool from Norwegian white sheep.
Here in Lofoten the sheep live outside large parts of the year. The sheep eat a lot of seaweed and kelp, and the wind blows salt into the wool. These special conditions result in beautifully white, soft wool.
We pick tansy which grows here in Lofoten and then hand-dye the wool in our color kitchen on the farm. Tansy is considered one of the best natural yellow dyes and is reliably lightfast. Place of growth and picking season result in different shades of yellow. We make about 9 skeins per dye batch and mark each skein with the batch number. We always send colors from the same dyelot.
Remember that the color may be slightly darker or lighter than what you see in the picture. In the winter we use dried plants and therefore get less color yield, and it is especially difficult to get strong colors with tansy.
We want you to be aware that the lighter the yarn, the less lightfast it is. This means that it can withstand less direct sunlight and can fade over time if exposed to too much light.
