Røstlam 3 ply 100g chunky, from 2017
White lambswool from Røst. This wool is sheared in the autumn then spun into a chunky 3-ply yarn that is fun to knit with large needles. It’s quick and easy to knit a hat or ear warmer and generally creates nice effects in both knitting and crochet!
Røst is the remotest islands in the Lofoten archipelago. Here the sheep live outside almost all year round, often on the islets around Røstlandet itself. The sheep eat seaweed and kelp, and the wind blows salt into the wool. These special conditions result in wool that is beautifully white, soft and airy.
IMPORTANT! The yarn contains sheep fat (lanolin) and becomes softer, whiter and airier after a light wool wash. You should knit a sample, wash and dry it and then measure / calculate the number of stitches / pin size before starting larger projects.
This is vintage yarn, batched by year and each year has its nuance. The clip from 2018 is now for sale.
