We plant dye “Steingjerde” 2 ply with cochineal. The gray yarn is white wool from Røst carded together with black sheep wool from northern Norway. Røst is the island furthest out in Lofoten. Here the sheep are grazing outside almost all year round, often on the islets around the main island itself. The sheep eat seaweed, the seabirds fertilize the pastures, and the wind blows salt into the wool - this gives special conditions for white, soft and airy wool.
We dye the yarn pink with cochineal. We have about 13 hasps per dye bath, and all the hasps are marked with batch number. Make sure to get the same batch number if you want the same colours.

On the label of this yarn is a photo of the pasture opposite our farm, there is a lot of heather.
