Wool sorting station
In the summer of 2025, we opened the doors to our new wool station for the first time! Here we accept wool from the sheep farmers in the region.
Classification of wool is a separate profession and we have a certified classifier who does this with approval from the Professional Service for Wool, Animalia. The Norwegian Wool Standard is the basis and this triggers subsidies from the state.
These subsidies are defined annually and different amounts are adopted for different classes of wool.
In addition to this state subsidy, the wool station also pays for wool. We define our payment for wool according to which qualities we need and which wool we want to stimulate the production of.
We pay out to the individual farmer: both the state subsidy and our price.
In the photo from top to bottom: Ida Beate A. Johansen - wool classifier, Siv Heia Ulldal - head of the professional wool service, Animalia and Ragnhild Lie - head of Lofoten Wool. Solveig Elton Jacobsen - financial manager of the wool station was not present when the photo was taken.
We need black and grey wool
As the use of Norwegian wool has increased and so has the production of "yarn with identity", the demand for black crossbred wool has increased.
This black and grey wool from Norwegian White Sheep, where some animals are "black sheep", and breeds such as Blæset sheep and Grå Trønder are therefore popular, and we need this wool to offer our customers black and grey yarn.
We have therefore set the price for this to a much higher level than our competitors!
Wool from the Old Norse Sheep and Spæl sheep in the region is also a highly desirable raw material for Lofoten Wool. Here it is important that the wool is sheared twice a year so that it does not become too long, and that it is clean and free of felted wool.
We pay well for Old Norse Sheep wool, unlike others. Good sheep wool has traditionally always been valuable, so the price here is as good as before.
Do you want to deliver wool?
It is important to shear the wool at the right time and to treat it correctly. The wool must be clean and dry when packed in paper bags that are tied tightly.

If you are a new supplier: write an email to us with information and sheep breed, name, address, telephone number, email, production number, and account number
Since we are starting up, it may take some time before we get the whole machinery running smoothly, but we are working on it and would be happy to be contacted if there are any questions.
