Needle binding needle, wood (Acacia)

These needles are made by a local artisan. Needle binding (not to be confused with needle felting) is an old technique used for making textiles with just your hands and simple tools. We know that the Vikings used this technique prior to knitting, and that knitting and crochet came a good deal later. Anyway: needle binding is a nice technique: it does not unravel. There are very many different varieties. Search for "needlebinding"  on  YouTube if you don't already know this field.

The needles have one one hole, and we have two lengths: 8cm and 11cm.
